Kavango basket - Namibia

Originating from northeastern Namibia, on the south bank of the Okavango, Kavango baskets are traditionally winnowed by women for agricultural use. They are made with the leaves, bark and roots of the Hyphaene petersiana or “mikalani” palm. The color palette (mainly black, brown, terracotta, lilac, pink) is obtained naturally.
The quality and finesse of the weaving as well as the infinite variations of colors and patterns make each basket unique.
