Skyline Chamonix

Chamonix-Mont-Blanc, more commonly Chamonix or Cham' for locals, is a French commune located in Haute-Savoie. 16 villages and hamlets are distributed from the entrance to the bottom of the valley such as Argentière, Les Mouilles or Les Pilgrims. Bordered by the Aiguilles Rouges massif and the Mont-Blanc massif, Chamonix shares with Saint-Gervais-les-Bains the record for the commune with the highest altitude in France. The center of the city is crossed by the Arve. The town is served by the RN 205 nicknamed the White Route. The Midi cable car, one of the highest in the world, connects Chamonix to the Aiguille du Midi at 3,777 meters. The first Winter Olympic Games took place in Chamonix in 1924. The town has 47 ski lifts with a throughput of 57,000 people/hour and has 182 km of ski slopes. On August 15, every year for almost a century, the Guides' Festival takes place.
